You have just downloaded a few beautiful Joomla templates and realized that you have no idea how to go about installing these templates. The website you downloaded them from isn’t clear on this; it seems to assume that you already know how to install them. It is really not difficult at all. There are two ways to install a Joomla template, and we shall start with the easier method.
The first method requires you to log on to the Joomla administrative interface. This method assumes that you are using Joomla 1.5 and that your template comes in a zipped file, which is the standard. There is no need to unzip the template file. After logging in to the administrative interface, bring your mouse over to the main menu and hover over the word “Extensions”. A menu will display and you should then click on “Install/Uninstall”.
You will then be shown the Extension Manager page. Click on the button called “Choose File” and browse to the location where the template zipped file is. Then click on “Upload File & Install”. You will then see “Install Template Success”, and you can then proceed to the Template Manager to select and use your new template.
The second method requires that you use an FTP program, and that the template is unzipped beforehand. After you unzip the template file, you will notice that a folder containing the files used by your template has been created. Run your FTP program and connect to your Joomla site. Navigate to the “templates” folder on the site and upload the folder that was created when you unzipped the template file. This may take a while, and after it has completed, proceed to Template Manager to select this new template.
It’s really very easy to change how your entire web site looks under Joomla. With just a click in Template Manager, you will be able to change the entire look and feel of your site.
